Cloich Forest Wind Farm, is a proposed 12-turbine wind farm located on a site to the west of Eddleston village, 5.5km north-west of Peebles, within the Scottish Borders.

Consent for a wind farm was originally granted in 2016 by the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit (ECU) following a submission by the previous owners, Partnership for Renewables (PfR), and the approved wind farm comprised 18 turbines with a vertical blade tip height of 115 metres.

EDF Renewables acquired the development portfolio of PfR in 2017 and reviewed the project to improve the productivity of the wind farm following changes in the financial support mechanism for wind farms. The new application proposes 12 turbines (six fewer than the consented layout) at an increased maximum height of up to 149.9m. The new wind farm would produce enough low carbon electricity to meet the average annual domestic needs of around 34,000 homes each year and will make a substantial contribution to reducing CO2 emissions.

The proposal was formally submitted to the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit as a new Section 36 application for consent to build and operate the wind farm (Energy Consents Unit application ref ECU00003288).

In November 2022, we submitted Supplementary Environmental Information (SEI). This reports on some further investigations relating to private water supplies and assesses minor modifications to the design of the proposed windfarm in response to consultation feedback. You can access the SEI Report we submitted in November and the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Report via the following PDF links:

The Cloich Wind Farm development is on the national forests and land managed by Forestry Land Scotland (FLS) on behalf of Scottish Ministers. EDF Renewables and FLS are working together to ensure the best outcome for the development at Cloich forest.
