Project Description

The project has planning permission from Anglesey Council for a 49.99MW solar array farm. The scheme will include the installation of solar PV arrays at a maximum 3m in height which will connect to the national grid.

In addition to the PV solar panels themselves, the planning permission also allows for battery storage.

The Porth Wen solar project will be an important source of low carbon electricity and could meet the average annual domestic electricity requirements of up to 9,500 households*

The Porth Wen solar project will also support the Welsh Government to meet its decarbonisation targets, which are:

  • Wales to be generating 70% of its electricity consumption from renewables by 2030
  • Reduce carbon emissions by at least 95% by 2050, with an ambition to meet net zero carbon emissions

Environment

Ecological assessments as part of the development showed that there were no significant impacts but as part of the scheme there will be a mile long wildlife corridor and wildflower planting.  These improvements will enhance biodiversity at the site.

The solar farm will be on 190 acres of land which will still be able to be used for sheep grazing. These improvements will allow for foraging, breeding opportunities and will provide shelter for a variety of wildlife.

Community

EDF Renewables is committed to delivering local benefits and working in partnership with local communities.

A community benefit fund has been agreed in the form of an annual £10,000 payment provided to two schools close to the Porth Wen development (Ysgol Gynradd Cemaes and Ysgol Syr Thomas Jones). In total, the proposal could deliver a potential community benefit contribution of £300,000 over the lifetime of the project.

Our goal is to support the schools during the development and over the operational life of our solar farm. The management and administration of the funds will require further engagement with the local community over the coming months.

Disgrifiad o'r Prosiect

Mae gan y prosiect ganiatâd cynllunio gan Gyngor Ynys Môn ar gyfer fferm aráe solar 49.99MW. Bydd y cynllun yn cynnwys gosod rhesi PV solar ar uchafswm o 3m o uchder a fydd yn cysylltu â'r grid cenedlaethol.

Yn ogystal â'r paneli solar PV eu hunain, mae'r caniatâd cynllunio hefyd yn caniatáu storio batris.

Bydd prosiect solar Porth Wen yn ffynhonnell bwysig o drydan carbon isel a gallai fodloni gofynion trydan domestig blynyddol cyfartalog hyd at 9,500 o aelwydydd*

Bydd prosiect solar Porth Wen hefyd yn cefnogi Llywodraeth Cymru i gyrraedd ei thargedau datgarboneiddio, sef:

  • Cymru i fod yn cynhyrchu 70% o'i defnydd o drydan o ynni adnewyddadwy erbyn 2030
  • Lleihau allyriadau carbon o leiaf 95% erbyn 2050, gydag uchelgais i fodloni allyriadau di-garbon net

Yr Amgylchedd

Dangosodd asesiadau ecolegol fel rhan o'r datblygiad nad oedd unrhyw effeithiau sylweddol ond fel rhan o'r cynllun bydd coridor bywyd gwyllt milltir o hyd a phlannu blodau gwyllt.  Bydd y gwelliannau hyn yn cyfoethogi bioamrywiaeth ar y safle.

Bydd y fferm solar ar 190 erw o dir a fydd yn dal i allu cael ei ddefnyddio ar gyfer pori defaid. Bydd y gwelliannau hyn yn caniatáu ar gyfer fforio, cyfleoedd bridio, a byddan nhw’n rhoi cysgod i amrywiaeth o fywyd gwyllt.

Cymunedol

Mae EDF Renewables wedi ymrwymo i sicrhau manteision lleol a gweithio mewn partneriaeth â chymunedau lleol.

Cytunwyd ar gronfa budd cymunedol ar ffurf taliad blynyddol o £10,000 a ddarperir i ddwy ysgol sy’n agos at ddatblygiad Porth Wen (Ysgol Gynradd Cemaes ac Ysgol Syr Thomas Jones). Gyda'i gilydd, gallai'r cynnig sicrhau cyfraniad budd cymunedol posibl o £300,000 dros oes y prosiect.

Ein nod yw cefnogi'r ysgolion yn ystod datblygiad a thros oes weithredol ein fferm solar. Bydd rheoli a gweinyddu'r cronfeydd yn gofyn am ymgysylltu pellach â'r gymuned leol dros y misoedd nesaf.
