Hydrogen

Low carbon hydrogen production will be vital in supporting the UK to transition to net zero by 2050.

The Tees Green Hydrogen project which we are developing is a pioneering project which powers a hydrogen electrolyser using green electricity produced locally by Teesside Offshore Wind Farm and a new solar farm at the same location. The green hydrogen we produce will decarbonise industry, transport and heating and safeguard operations and jobs for many years to come.

Why hydrogen

Hydrogen can support the deep decarbonisation of our society, particularly in industrial sectors that are difficult to electrify.

The UK’s geography, geology, infrastructure and expertise make the area particularly suited to rapidly developing low carbon hydrogen economies, leading the world in green hydrogen production and securing valuable economic opportunities.

Project Spotlight

Tees Green Hydrogen

Tees Green Hydrogen, will be a pioneering project, using the green electricity from nearby Teesside Offshore Wind Farm along with a new solar farm, which EDF Renewables UK intends to construct near Redcar, to power its hydrogen electrolyser. The project will supply local business customers with hydrogen to support decarbonisation efforts and a significant reduction in industrial pollution.
