We are developing a national network of battery storage systems. We have chosen sites that are close to National Grid substations, major road networks and nearby towns and cities. Where possible, we are looking to combine grid-scale batteries with high volume power connections to create rapid electric vehicle (EV) charging networks, powered by low carbon energy.

An application for the development of a battery storage system near Braintree was submitted in 2022 and we await a decision by Braintree District Council.

If consented, we plan to build a 50MW battery connected to the high-voltage transmission network. The battery will provide essential flexibility to future-proof our electricity system and help deliver secure, affordable, low carbon power.
