We are developing a national network of battery energy storage systems. We have chosen sites that are close to National Grid substations, major road networks and nearby towns and cities.

Our 49.9MW lithium-ion battery storage facility near Sellindge received planning consent in July 2023 and is expected to begin construction in early 2024, with the aim of being operational in early 2025. This investment from EDF Renewables UK will support Kent with its ambitions of becoming a net zero county by 2050 to help tackle the climate crisis

Battery storage systems help to manage variations in renewable generation, storing surplus electricity when wind and solar power are plentiful, and releasing it when there is a shortfall, helping the electricity system remain balanced.
