Dorenell Visitor Centre celebrates four star VisitScotland attraction award recognising
excellent visitor experience

An engaging and fun events programme is being launched by Dorenell Ranger Service to give people
of all ages the chance to learn about the natural and cultural heritage in the area.

Dorenell Ranger Service is funded by Dorenell Windfarm Limited a subsidiary of EDF Renewables UK.
It is based at Dorenell Visitor Centre, which recently won a four star VisitScotland attraction award –
reflecting the excellent standard of experience visitors can have.

To encourage people to get out and about and enjoy the countryside responsibly, the Ranger Service
team , is running a comprehensive events programme. This will run from the beginning of the Easter
school holidays in April throughout the year and includes family cycles, mini beast hunts, walking
festival routes, educational talks and crafts and photography walks.

The events will take place from the visitor centre near Dufftown and the surrounding areas. The
visitor centre is nearby to 177MW Dorenell wind farm, which consists of 59 turbines, powering up to
106,000 homes* and was commissioned in March 2019. Dorenell wind farm has a community
benefit package worth around £12 million over the lifetime of the wind farm administered by
Foundation Scotland on behalf of EDF Renewables UK.

Stephen Reeves, Senior Ranger at Dorenell Ranger Service commented: “EDF Renewables is
committed to sustainability in everything we do, including in the impact we have on local
communities and the environments we work in. We are really excited to be welcoming people to the
visitor centre and wider area to learn about the amazing natural history of the area.

“Our events programme will have something to suit everyone and will be interactive and fun for all
ages. It is a great opportunity to learn more about the area and a chance to ask questions of the
team.”

VisitScotland Regional Director, David Jackson said: “Congratulations to the team at Dorenell Visitor
Centre for achieving our 4 Star award – an accolade which reflects an excellent visitor experience,
and all the more impressive given the unmanned nature of the site.

“Located in the heart of Speyside, Dorenell offers an ideal base for visitors to explore the spectacular
scenery and wildlife on offer in the area with these Ranger-led events complementing our own
activity promoting greater access to and responsible enjoyment of Scotland’s outdoors.”
